Refund Policy – Terms and Conditions

At Card Merchant Takapuna, we are committed to complying with the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA), which ensures your rights when purchasing goods and services in New Zealand. The following policy outlines how we handle refunds, returns, and exchanges.


1. Your Rights Under the CGA
All goods sold by Card Merchant Takapuna are covered by the guarantees under the CGA. This means products must:

  • Be of acceptable quality

  • Be fit for their intended purpose

  • Match the description or sample

  • Be free from significant defects

If a product you purchased does not meet these guarantees, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund, depending on the nature of the issue.


2. Change of Mind
Please choose carefully, especially when purchasing collectibles or sealed product. We do not offer refunds or exchanges if you:

  • Change your mind

  • Decide you no longer want the item

  • Find the item cheaper elsewhere

  • Ordered the wrong product

However, in some cases, we may offer a store credit or exchange at our discretion, provided:

  • The item is returned within 14 days of purchase

  • It is unopened, in original condition, and resalable

  • You present a valid proof of purchase

This discretionary policy does not override your rights under the CGA.


3. Sealed Products and Trading Cards

  • We do not offer refunds or exchanges on sealed product (e.g., booster boxes, packs) once opened, unless the item is faulty or mispackaged.

  • Single trading cards are sold as collectibles, and all sales are final. Once a sale is completed, trading cards cannot be returned or exchanged, as we cannot verify the origin of the card after it has left the store. This policy protects both our customers and our store from potential misuse or fraudulent returns.

Please ensure you are satisfied with the card’s condition and details before completing your purchase. Our staff are happy to assist with inspections or questions prior to sale.


4. Pre-Order Products
Pre-order items are products reserved in advance of their official release date. By placing a pre-order with us, you agree to the following conditions:

  • Full Payment Required: All pre-orders must be paid in full at checkout to secure your item.

  • No Change-of-Mind Cancellations: We do not accept cancellations or refunds on pre-orders due to a change of mind. In such cases, refunds (if approved) will only be issued as store credit.

If a pre-order cannot be fulfilled due to supplier shortages or other issues outside our control, we will contact you to offer alternatives or a full refund.


5. Faulty, Damaged, or Incorrect Items
If you believe you have received a faulty, damaged, or incorrect item:

  • Contact us as soon as possible at info@cardmerchanttakapuna.co.nz or visit us in-store

  • We may request photos or return of the item for assessment

  • If confirmed faulty, we will offer a repair, replacement, or refund, as appropriate

  • You will not be charged return shipping for faulty or incorrect items


6. Return Process & Requirements
To initiate a return or refund request, you must:

  • Provide a valid proof of purchase (receipt or order confirmation)

  • Return the item in the condition it was received (unless faulty)

  • Contact us within a reasonable timeframe


7. Refund Timeframes
Once your return is approved:

  • Refunds will be processed to your original payment method

  • Please allow 5–10 business days for processing, depending on your bank


8. Return Shipping

  • If the return is due to our error or a faulty product, we will cover return shipping costs

  • For change-of-mind returns (if approved), you are responsible for any return shipping fees


9. Non-Returnable Items
Unless faulty, we do not accept returns or refunds on:

  • Opened sealed product

  • Gift cards or store credit

  • Clearance or discounted items

  • Items sold as-is or with disclosed imperfections

  • Products damaged after purchase due to misuse or neglect
